More about the Book....
Feed Your Soul with Flowers, the book written by Yvette Timmins, explores the process of healing emotional pain through the art and therapy of flower arranging.
The book has been described as a 'therapy in bloom' as it is the perfect dose of relaxation and rejuvenation. It is a blend of meditation and flower arranging. Unleashing one’s inner creativity, connection with nature and connection with oneself through the art of flower arranging.
Imagine a world where people consider flowers an essential element to their self-fulfilment. The positive energy of flowers is food for our souls. Healing oneself through the art and therapy of flower arranging.
The ten principles of creating and sustaining good mental health are easily digestible in this guide book. The practical steps have been developed by experience rather than just theory.
Feeding one's soul with flowers is the path to living in oneness with the universe.
Stunning Images
The book includes many beautiful images within the book which were captured by photographer Brodie Seals. Yvette covers the steps in how to create each design all whilst teaching the potential mental well-being benefits each one encompasses.
“Yvette presented to 50 participants at my retreat centre and inspired them with great depth and wisdom as to how to be happier , healthier and more connected utilising flowers. Now she has extended her reach to help others by putting into words that which now radiates from her person. I had to put this book down at an early stage of the reading, to venture out onto the property and collect the spring flowers, arrange them and place them strategically so that others could 'come alive'. Yvette has captured the words and activities that will provide you, the reader, with more meaning to this life."
Wayne Linton, Psychotherapist and Author of 'The Awareness Code'
An uplifting combination of helpful meditative practices and practical how-to guide that encourages readers to start fresh.
Timmins presents an artful blend of flower arranging know-how and inspirational self-help in this nonfiction guide.
Using flower arranging as a form of therapy, the author introduces readers to the positive mental and emotional influences of the natural world. Each chapter tackles a new area of self-improvement, including acceptance, forgiveness, connection, love, gratitude, contribution, vision, alignment, courage, and purpose. The text incorporates personal anecdotes illustrating how Timmins’ previously black-and-white view of the world has changed as she’s gotten older and reminding readers of the simple joys of receiving flowers. Linked with each aspect of self-improvement is a different flower arrangement project that includes all the ingredients and directions readers need to complete it (acceptance pairs with a seasonal bouquet, while forgiveness pairs with a terrarium). Gorgeous color photos show what the arrangements might ideally look like, although the author insists that flower styling can and should be highly individualized: “This is the true therapy of arranging flowers. The flowers will guide you by their shape, size, colour, texture and directional flow, which are all elements of design. Go with their flow and you will step into your state of flow.” Chapters also include guided meditations, including an exercise in which one envisions one’s heart as a flower full of petals that slowly unfurl with each breath. Engaging flower trivia is scattered throughout, such as the fact that a rose vibrates at a frequency of 320 MHz (compared to, say, an apple that vibrates at around 15 MHz). All of this information—therapeutic, botanical, scientific—fuses into a joyful and engaging text that even self-proclaimed “black thumbs” will likely find irresistible. Written with a warm, friendly, open-hearted style, it truly feels as though Timmins is a good friend whose mere presence (and frequent words of wisdom) helps make the day brighter. The jaw-dropping flower arrangements don’t hurt either.
An uplifting combination of helpful meditative practices and practical how-to guide that encourages readers to start fresh.
About The Author
Yvette Timmins has covered everything in Floristry from Casual Florist Assistant to Apprentice, Senior Florist, Florist shop manager, Florist Shop Owner, Floristry teacher and Principal of her school, Bloom College she founded in 2013. Yvette was a founding director and board member of Australia’s peak national body, Flower Industry Australia. Yvette is also a co-founder of the charity Floral acts of kindness, which was set up by Bloom College graduate Dr Isabelle De Solier. The charity delivers flower bouquets to nursing homes and hospitals. It could be said that Yvette’s passion and skill for working with flowers is in her blood. Yvette’s Grandmother, Great Aunt and Great Grandmother were all florists. Yet Yvette will tell you that arranging flowers is not an inherited special skill reserved for only a few, but rather is available to everyone. Yvette believes we are all born with an innate sense of creativity and a need to connect with nature. Arranging flowers feeds both of those human needs simultaneously; the only requirement, she says, is to enable the process by getting our own inner negative self-talk and criticism out of the way. Creating a comfortable and nurturing environment allows our creativity to flow. The ongoing positive flow on effects that Yvette has witnessed first hand over her 30+ years in the industry include, but is not limited to, a decrease in feelings of anxiety and depression. Yvette is passionate about many causes, yet possibly the highest on the list is the need for greater opportunity to connect with nature and our creativity for the purpose of generating positive effects on our mental health. It is this reason Yvette has developed Bloom College courses online and via the App to ensure people are not restricted by location or mental or physical ability.
